Embracing Yoga: My Journey to Wellness with Bloom
I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the transformative impact Bloom has had on my life, particularly in my journey towards embracing my physical wellbeing.
A year ago, I joined the online yoga classes that were being conducted by Neha for Bloom Divas ☺ At the time, I used to have a lot of pain in my shoulders, would toss and turn in the night several times to find a comfortable position. I used to get tired and breathless after doing 2 sets of Surya Namaskar. But having persisted with yoga for a year now, I can say that I’ve experienced a profound shift in my physical and mental well-being.
What I’ve come to realize is that the most important aspect of self-care, especially during perimenopause, is simply showing up for ourselves, no matter the circumstances or obstacles we may face. Bloom has instilled in me a sense of commitment to my health and well-being, sparking conversations that have encouraged me to take proactive steps in caring for myself.
One significant example of this was when we attended Dr Suboohi’s webinar and my friends encouraged me to undergo a blood test. I was shocked to see the abysmal Vitamin B 12 scores. Apparently, they had plummeted in 6 months, and I still don’t know why! After getting the scores double checked, my doctor told me that I needed vitamin B 12 injections. Over the past four months, I’ve been diligently receiving these injections, and I can already feel the positive impact they’ve had on my overall health.
I feel that if I can make these changes and prioritize my health, anyone can.
I decided to do in-person yoga classes as I had the option in my condo. However, the group I joined was pretty advanced. I was dismayed at the speed at which the class would go and it took me a couple of weeks to accept that I will be at the bottom of this class (for the first time in my life!!)
I used to struggle with severe shoulder and neck pain and was unable to do many asanas. It’s a slow process. However, through yoga, thrice a week, I’ve begun to address these issues, gradually experiencing improvements in my mobility, endurance, and flexibility.
I’m not yet at 100%, but the progress I’ve made is undeniable. This picture above is a big win for me. This asana requires shoulder strength that I did not have some time ago. It’s a step in the right direction and now I have made a commitment to yoga for life. Infact, it is said that if your body stays flexible, you are less prone to illness. As we will be entering our 50s, it’s a good promise to make to oneself. What say?
This journey has taught me the importance of listening to my body and not ignoring signs of pain or discomfort but. I urge you not to ignore any signals your body may be sending you.
I am committing to loving and caring for my body knowing that it’s the only one I have for this life. Are you?
